Educational Services for College Age
Learning Strategy Instruction
for college students is designed to develop more efficient
study strategies to improve learning, review and test performance.
The increase in quantity and complexity along with the elimination
of grades for homework, class participation and projects
can make the adjustment to college difficult. The sessions
are designed to meet the individual needs of the college
student and are scheduled as individual sessions. Typically,
four sessions are scheduled and the strategies that have
an evidence base of support are individualized to the needs
of the student (fee: $125/hour).
Learning Strategy Training plus
Monitoring is available for students who have had a very
difficult transition to college or who are on academic probation
and need more structure and guidance. Students are taught
note-taking strategies that improve performance and the
notes are e-mailed weekly for review to make sure students
are staying on-task, are taking efficient notes and are
current with assignments (fee: $400/semester).
Getting Ready for College
will teach strategies for studying, note-taking, time management
and organization to ensure success at the college level.
Class sessions will be announced and usually are held the
first week in August. Individual sessions may also be scheduled (fee: $125/hour).
Organization and time management
have been known to predict success at the college level.
Sessions are scheduled to design individualized programs
that support organization/time management and incorporate
the concepts of advance organization, authentic visual support
and external organization into the plan (fee: $125/hour).
PC Software instruction
is designed to teach students to use a software program
that structures notetaking and organizes the notes into
two-column or flashcard formats using specific procedures
that have been shown to improve learning and test-taking.
The student is taught to use the format of the text to guide
selection of critical information, support focus of attention
and produce cumulative study systems. Sessions are scheduled
on an individual basis and can cover all subject areas or
be limited to specific subjects. Fees will be established
on an individual basis based on time involved.
Individual consultation
is available for parent consultation, self-monitoring skill
development, time management and organization.
