S.A.T. Classes - Preparing for the PSAT/SAT/ACT is an important step on the path to successful college admission. Our Regular SAT or ACT Class, whether conducted as a group class(regular and honors levels available for SAT classes) or on an individual basis, is designed and presented as strategy sessions. While each class does include skills review beyond the basic level, its primary objective is to build a successful strategy for test taking. At the first class meeting, each student receives a practice book and a folder of information. Inside the folder are the test strategy guidelines, class assignments and for the SAT, a list of important vocabulary words. Each class meeting ends with an assignment to reinforce skills and should be completed before the next class meeting. For more information or to register, click here.

PC Software Study Strategy Training - The training is designed for students who wish to use the computer to support learning. Instruction shows the students how to use the software to support learning. The program produces two- column format printouts and flashcard review systems for most of the subjects. The writing program produces an outline as the final product. Call (804) 747-1883 to schedule times.

S.A.T. Vocabulary Development Program - Success on the Verbal sections of the SAT requires a strong vocabulary and increasing word knowledge takes time. Students will be taught to use a software program that supports learning new words and makes frequent review easy. Words that show up most frequently on the SAT will be assigned for daily sessions to be done Monday through Friday at home. The words will be assigned and progress monitored weekly by e-mail. The training session will be scheduled on an individual basis. For more information or to register, click here.

Reading Comprehension - This class will develop stronger reading comprehension skills through vocabulary development, sentence-building activities, use of context clues, Reciprocal Reading and notetaking strategies. For more information or to register, click here.

General Vocabulary Development for Elementary and Middle School Students - A strong vocabulary base is essential to understand language (written or oral) and to communicate with others. The increased time spent on “screens” can result in reduced exposure to a wide range of words. The program will build a stronger base of word knowledge to support reading, writing and listening. Assignments and on-going monitoring will take place by e-mail. The training session will be scheduled on an individual basis. For more information or to register, click here.

Wordstorming Program - Using this program will enable parents to help their children build skills in decoding, word attack, spelling, reading and writing through the use of highly structured lessons. Each lesson takes approximately an hour to complete, but the lesson can be divided into smaller sections to accommodate daily schedules or the child’s attention span. For more information or to register, click here.

Writing Skills - In this class, students will develop stronger skills to enable them to express their ideas in writing. The sessions will clearly identify the basic goals of writing and include instruction in understanding basic grammar, Reverse Diagramming, Upgrade Proofing and Cloze Activities.
