Simplicity
and visual support are the important features of the Organizational
Windows. If you see it, you don't have to depend on memory.
Windows are simply clear pockets with adhesive backing that
can be attached to notebooks, backpacks, briefcases, dashboards,
binders, textbooks, and any other surface to make reminders
visible.
A set of Windows includes three sizes: full sheet, half sheet, and index
card size. The uses of the Windows are unlimited. Sample uses
are listed below:
Planning
Calendar: A full sheet Window is placed on both sides of the
front cover and both sides of the back cover. The front cover
Window holds daily information and the other cover Windows
are designated for other types of material. For example, homework
to be handed in can be in the front cover Window, handouts
in the inside Window of the front cover, miscellaneous information
in the inside Window of the back cover, and a monthly calendar
in the back cover Window. The calendar inside serves as a
planning calendar but the Windows provide visual support and
containers for organization.
Windows
can be placed on the outside of notebooks, folders or backpacks
to serve as visual reminders. Index card sized Windows can
hold an index card with a list of duties to be completed.
Windows
can be placed on surfaces to remind children of daily routines
through the use of visual support. Children can draw pictures
of the steps in the routine and place each in a Window that
is displayed as a reminder.
Windows
make reminders visible. Lists, notes, and reminders that cannot
be seen are still dependent on memory which can cause problems.
The Windows simply make the information or material visible
to decrease dependence on memory. The key is to place the
Window where it can be seen - not where you have to remember
to look!
